Windows XP SP2-Forgot both Admin and User Passwords for old la

Thanks Beverly. I have tried logging in as admin using standard admin sign
on ('Administrator' and then no password). I tried all standard passwords
too including both ones that admins would use or help desk folks as well as
past ones that I've used. Boy--have learned my lesson and next time I retire
a laptop will write the passwords somewhere. I'm trying to resurrect this
one now because my son wants to use it for college.

Anyhoo--I hit f8 and got into logging options and asksed it to boot from
disk but yet it wouldn't grab the recovery XP disk that was in the cd drive,
nor a free 'unlock' tool that I found on the web that I had saved to a jump
drive (which was inserted when I restarted). What function key do I hit
during start up to get into the BIOS? Is it something other than F8? Maybe
I don't have it set correctly to book from a disk because if I did, would
think it would pick up on the vendor provided recovery disk, no?

Thanks for taking time to help :-)
