MSN Premium favorites not saving changes (Verizon Fios)

I also tried the fix suggested by Steve Boots (modifying the xml file) but the changes still don't stick. This is a STRANGE bug - why is it happening all of a sudden? Really annoying!

The Verizon Fios people were totally useless, btw.
Acted like they'd never heard of the problem before.

this issue is still current with me and my msn favorites. I was
hoping someone would have gotten a fix by now other then those old
fixes that don't work. I will give them another week and call msn
again. I intend to post here if I do get a fix, as I hope others do.
this has gone on for me since april, but I see past posts where this
happened in 06 as well, so has been a known issue with msn for a long
time.

It's unlikely that much help will be offered on the MSn Ex 7.02 platform from the available support options since MSn 7 support ceased a while back. Also iirc, MSn 7 was designed and intended to run on IE6.

Can you elaborate on methods used to change home pages?
- Note: a variety of applications have home page change protection options(e.g. Antivirus program, Spybot Search and Destroy etc).
With respect to 'my stock's--Is Money(Microsoft software) or the online MSn Money Deluxe/Basic portfolio manager in use. The latter application's newsgroup is:

I spoke again with Qwest/MSN on July 12th. This issue has not been

it is on the MSN side. MSN advised Qwest they are having this issue
with other "wholesalers" as well and have gotten calls from other
vendors and account holders. As I have said I hope the find a fix
soon and this is not indicative they will be discontinuing MSN service
as to that point in April, I have been extremely happy with MSN for 3
years. The unfortunate part is everytime I call Qwest for an update,
the service tech is different and is first time that tech has heard of
the issue and MSN appears to be not alerting their wholesalers of what
they are doing to resolve. MSN should have a place on members page
that addresses this issue and keeps us updated on such things. They
don't seem to have such a known issues page. correct me if wrong and
what is it?

hanks for the explanations. So disappointed to know that MNS Explorerer 7.02
is no longer supported. Too bad it is the latest free version, as far as I
know.
In response to your questions about home pages and the "My Stocks" list, I
would like to report the following:
Home pages: Sites like this one: http://sympatico.msn.ca/?lang=en-CA has
clickable instructions available, usually on the top of the pages, so that
the computer user can choose the pages as their home pages. When I click the
instruction, I expect that the page will appear whenever I open MSN
Explorer. But no, the same old home page will reappear. I am quite sure it
is not due to the intervention of anti-virus/spyware devices. Anti spy
devices will usually ask me if I want to allow the change(s) before taking
any form of action. At least I have made suitable settings to make them ask
every time.
"My Stocks" : When you open MSN Explorer 7.02, on the left you will find a
bar with some features. Amongst the features, you will find "My Stocks".
When you click it, you will be able to build a list of stocks you want to
watch from time to time. I have found that stocks chosen for listing of the
"My Stocks" list a long while ago will behave like the MSN favorites. They
can be deleted for a short while but will reappear on the next sign-in.
Thanks for the attention. Really appreciate. However, with the knowledge
that MSN Explerer 7.02 is no longer supported and that it works well only
with IE6, I have lost steam to press forward for a fix.
I offer my apology if I have gone off topic by mentioning my problems with
home pages and "My Stocks". I, however, believe that those problems are
related to the problems that are affecting my "favorites".

Disable any option in your spyware tool or av tool that has home page protection, shutdown/restart and retest.

The stock list reappearance occurs in MSn EX, IE6, and IE7...some have had success by deleting all live, money, moneycentral, and msn cookies.

Yes...MSn 7 is the last free version..and your appearance here actually filled an unknown..that MSn 7 still works without being force into an autoupdate.
- If I may ask, have you been prompted to upgrade to the latest MSn Ex when using MSn7 ?

hanks for the response. I think I have more or less tried all the tricks
that you mentioned. Sorry, the same problems persisted. When I have time and
courage, I will try again. My computer literacy is very very poor. Every
time I do such things, I take a big risk of messing things up further.
Anyhow, now that I know that MSN Explorer 7.02 is obsolute, I am having less
and less determination to get it fixed. Still, I appreciate your good advice.
Regarding updating 7.02, sometimes when I encounter an error and report it
to MSN, I will get an advice in return to update it to a "newer and more
stable version". However, when I finish downloading everything and am ready
to install the new version, MSN tells me something like that according to the
email address I provide, I am not a member of the subscription service, so I
cannot really install the newer version. My time has been waisted several
times, not to mention the frustration. I think it is fair that MSN reserves
it for their subscribers. Yet, their advice to download the newer version
does not include a warning that it is for subscribing members only.
For your information, MSN Explorer 7.02 seems to be still available for
downloading in the usual sites that provide free downloads. You just have to
do a search using one of the common search engines and you will see what I
mean.
I think I have side tracked. Sorry for that! Let's now focus back on the
problems about the "favorites".
Thanks again!

ou're welcome,
Thanks for the prompt feedback.
And yes as you've probably ascertained, availability from the 'free sites' doesn't change the support level.
If you tire of 7.02 or it becomes more problematic, consider Windows Live Mail(still in beta); it's free and works on both http and pop3 accounts.
Good luck!

Greetings,

I have spent the last couple of days identifying a contact in the MSN
Groups operations team. This team went through a reorganization in
March, and most of the people are new. Yesterday, I did get
introduced to several very helpful people on the server team, and
they are starting to look into this issue.

Right now, my main focus is to find a way to upload corrected
favorites.xml files to the server and see if that fixes the issue. If
so, then we know the corrupted IDs are causing the issue. This would
also give us a way to fix customers, however, since we don't know the
root cause of the ID corruption there is no guarantee that the problem
would not come back. The final step will be to isolate the cause of
the corruption. I do not have an ETA for this.

I thank you again for your patience, and feel free to email me at any
time if you have any questions. I will send out periodic updates as
we make progress.

Take care,

Berit
