I E 6 works fine for a while and then stops working when I click on a new link

I am wondering if someone can help me understand why Internet Explorer stops
sending to my modem. I E works fine for a while and then I click a link to
go to another site my cursor shows activity and the progress bar at the
bottom of Internet Explorer goes 1/4 to 1/2 the way across but nothing is
happening at the broad band modem (the recieve and send packets lights are
not blinking) and pretty soon page cannot be displayed comes up. It is
happening more and more regularily. If I wait for between 5 and 15 min. all
is fine again. Also, I experienced this on my computer before setting up my
network so I do not think the base station or cabeling is a problem.I would
also note that when this happens my email and news reader does not send or
recieve either.I use Outlook Express and Incredimail. With my old computer
with Win 98,IE6, and the same modem I saw this also and my Mother is also
experiancing this problem on her Win 98 computer with IE6.0 and Outlook
Express at her home. Why?? I would really like to work this out and find a
fix. I have searched the Windows and IE knowledge base for this but come up
empty handed.
I am running Win XP with all updates and security updates on both my sons
and my computers. I also use Norton Internet Security and Antivirus
programs(2003 on one computer,2004 on the other) and am up to date with
thier updates, the computers are connected to a Microsoft MN100 wired base
station and then to the modem. My broad band modem is a HYBRID brand from my
ISP. The cables are all new and are cat5. The base station has all the
latest firmware and its software on both computers is up to date. I have
checked all the settings for the base station and Internet Explorer, and all
of the settings for my ISP are up to date. Both computers are identical
hardware configurations,OS,ect.256 mb of memory, Realtek RTL 8139 PCI Fast
Ethernet NIC, AMD XP 1700+ Processors. Both computers I E 6.0 programs
experiancing the same problem.
Thankyou in advance for your help.
