Idle is defined as no data being sent or received across the modem. So it sounds like in
this case, the SMTP mail server is busy doing something and not talking back to the mail
program for at least 3 minutes. That can happen some times. You might need to set a
large idle disconnect.
Are you seeing any activity in the modem lights during that time? If you are, then maybe
it's not the Dial-up Networking idle disconnect that's the issue, and something else is
triggering the disconnect.
