Setup TSI Indirect Replication

Post by Cheva » Thu, 10 Jun 2004 14:05:06

I've followed the instructions for Setting Up Indirect replication for
Access 2003 Jet 4 SP8 all patches and service packs on 2 Win2k Machines
patched to the hilt. With TSI and all that happens is that I get is a new
file which is my mdb backend file name with a .sgn extension in the same
folder as the replica.

I'll quickly run through my steps:

On Local Machine:
1) Install TSI Sync, Jet40Repl.exe (Jet SP5 ver) and check for support files
2) Created a new unshared folder "a"
3) Under "a" create a new sub folder Tmp
4) Under "a" create a new sub folder "Drop" and marked it as shared
5) In "a" create the replica database MyDB_DM.mdb as a Design Master and
created a replica called MyDB_BE.mdb
6) In "a" create a New App called MyMCP.mdb to perform the TSI stuff
7) In MyMCP.mdb run the code:
If moSync Is Nothing Then Set moSync = New Synchronizer
moSync.ManagedReplicas.Append "C:\a\MyDb_BE.MDB"
moSync.IndirectDropbox = "\\Machine1\Drop"
moSync.DatabaseName = vbNullString
Set moSync = Nothing
8) In "Tmp" created a another global replica called MyDB_BE.mdb

On Remote Machine:
9) Install TSI Sync, Jet40Repl.exe (Jet SP5 ver) and check for support files
10) Created a new unshared folder "a"
11) Under "a" create a new sub folder "Drop" and marked it as shared
12) Windows File Copy \\Machine1\a\Tmp\MyDB_BE.mdb to C:\a
13) Move MyMCP.mdb to C:\a
14) In MyMCP.mdb run code
If moSync Is Nothing Then Set moSync = New Synchronizer
moSync.ManagedReplicas.Append "C:\a\MyDb_BE.MDB"
moSync.IndirectDropbox = "\\Machine2\Drop"
moSync.DatabaseName = vbNullString
Set moSync = Nothing
15) In MyMCP.mdb run code
If moSync Is Nothing Then Set moSync = New Synchronizer
moSync.DatabaseName = "C:\a\MyDB_BE.mdb"
Set reps = moSync.ReplicaSet
For Each rep In reps
If rep.MachineName = "Machine1" And rep.Description = "C:\a\MyDB_BE.mdb"
Then
moSync.SynchIndirect rep.SynchronizerID
End If
Next rep
Set reps = Nothing
Set moSync = Nothing

This gives me on Remote Machine the file C:\a\MyDB_Be.sgn 0 bytes
Is there anything that I've done wrong in the steps?

Did you run Replication Manager to set up the Jet Synchronizer on the new
machine?

Yep. Installed and registered TSI Sync, ran Jet40Repl.exe and the Jet 4 SP8.

f you installed and configured ReplMan on both machines, then why did you
need to set the dropboxes? They should already be set.

If not, then I recommend that you do just that -- and then see what happens
when you sync in ReplMan. Does it work? Not work?

ran Jet40Repl.exe, downloaded it from MS website saying that it included
SP (I think it was 5) fix. It ran on both machines and did nothing. I looked
for the support files and they were there so I assumed that's all it did.

o you did NOT have ReplMan? You should get ReplMan and try it.
