Replication Question

Replication Question

Post by David M » Thu, 07 Aug 2003 03:31:07

Currently i am having to deploy a database that i have set
up. Since starting to write the database the requirements
have chnaged and therefore i am going to have to undertake
some more work on it.

i have some questions about replication:

1) Is it safe to use?

2) I will keep the Design Master but the users will have
the replicated copy. Therefore the data in the replicated
copy will be chnaged a lot. When i sychnogise the two will
the replicated copys data be deleteed or will access work
out which how to update the data. (Bearing in mind the
only thing that will be changed is the form designs, vb
code, reports, some querys and new tables will be added
but no existing tables will be chnaged)

Any more comments about problems or how to solve issues
with replication will be apprehciated.

David

Yes, when done correctly.

Replication is intended for only the backend of a split design. The
backend contains no forms, queries, reports, etc. If you replicate the
frontend, you will eventually have a corrupted database. Use a
different method for distributing changes to your frontend

Tony Toews site has a tool for distributing changes to the frontedn.

go to www.trigeminal.com for additional information about replication.
It's the best source around.
