Internet Explorer mail problem - Mac OS X - can't send mail

Post by Suzanne G » Sun, 04 Jan 2004 07:06:59

recently began using a cable modem on my Mac OS X, with
IE as the default browser. I'm able to receive mail at my
email address, but I'm not able to send it. I wrote to
Comcast (the cable provider) about this; correspondence
follows. What I'd like to do is to be able to use IE and
my comcast.net address to send and receive mail, without
having to use MS Outlook Express, as recommended by
Comcast. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance for your help.

Dear Suzanne,

Thank you for writing to Comcast regarding your e-mail
issue and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may
have caused. From the error message you provided, it looks
like your e-mail server names are incorrect. Comcast
customer care specialists are only trained and authorized
to provide support for Microsoft Outlook Express. If you
choose to use another email client, we suggest you to
contact the manufacturer of that particular software. They
will be able to provide you with detailed assistance for
their specific products. We apologize for any confusion or
inconvenience this may cause. However, the software
manufacturer is the authorized source for third-party
software assistance.

Your e-mail software must be properly set up before you
can start to send and receive e-mail messages. If you use
Outlook Express as your e-mail client, follow the steps
below to set mail preferences. If any of the settings need
to be changed, either type in the correct information
or select the applicable choice from the drop-down menus
or check boxes.

Please remember, you must enter a login/username (your e-
mail address without "@comcast.net") using all lowercase
letters. The password is case sensitive. It must be typed
in the exact same way as when it was originally created.

You may need to verify and or change your e-mail settings
for any the following situations:
-- You have received a "Server Not Found" error
-- You would like to set or change the name that appears
on your e-mail
-- Others that have sent you an e-mail have had the e-mail
bounce back to them and you never received the message
-- You would like to have Outlook Express remember your
password
-- You have added a new e-mail account
