need to delete custom forms but cannot locate them

Post by len_hawkin » Tue, 28 Sep 2004 18:25:25

A user has created some custom forms and published them to a mailbox.
Now she wants to delete them. If I do the
tools\options\other\advanced\custom forms\manage forms , and browse to
the mailbox the forms do not appear, so i cannot delete them. I have
looked through all the subfolders in the mailbox as well as the 'top
level' of the mailbox. The forms do still exist however because they
appear when i do tools\forms\choose form\look in mailbox. This is in a
corporate exchange environment. I have full rights to the mailbox
concerned. Does anyone know where else they might be hiding? Or can i
just get on to the exchange server and delete them in there?
many thanks in advance

Are you running Outlook with a profile that's logged directly into that
mailbox rather than opening it as a secondary mailbox?

What do you mean by "when i do tools\forms\choose form\look in mailbox"?
What folder library are you referring to?

need to delete custom forms but cannot locate them

I have tried it both logged in directly to the mailbox, and as a
secondary mailbox added to my normal mail profile.
In forms manager i have clicked 'set' on the left hand side, changing
from organisation library to the
' XXXX@XXXXX.COM '
I have also tried clicking the set button on the right hand side,
changing from the personal forms library, and once again browsing to
' XXXX@XXXXX.COM '
Both ways reveal no forms.

You cannot see forms in another mailbox's Personal Forms library, only in
your own. When you log directly into the mailbox, navigate to the Personal
Forms library. That will show the Personal Forms library for that mailbox.
If the forms aren't there, then they were published to some other location,
perhaps to a specific folder.

i Sue, thanks for your help so far.
But unfortunately the forms still do not show when i follow your
instructions.I also tried checking in every sub folder (inbox/calendar
etc etc)

I'm not sure if this will help with the investigation but when logged
in as the mailbox i go to choose one of the forms in an attempt to
track down where they're hiding.
In the folder list in the left hand pane i click on [outlook today]-
mailbox- mailboxname
I then go to
tools/forms/choose form
in the 'look in' selection field when i choose 'outlook folders' the
forms are displayed (text box directly below the 'look in' field shows
'top of information store)

the forms also are displayed when i select in the look in field
'mailbox- mailboxname'

scratching head in a perplexed manner now

his information is very helpful. Your description indicates that the forms
were published in the top-level folder of the mailbox, not in the Personal
Forms library and not in any of the normal folder forms libraries. It is not
possible to remove forms from that folder's library using Outlook. It is
possible, however, with the Outlook Spy tool from http://www.dimastr.com/ or
with the Mdbvu32.exe tool that comes with Exchange. The form description is
an item in the hidden "associated contents" for the folder.

What's the impetus to delete the forms? Having a form published there does
no harm. And I'd follow up with the user to make sure they know for next
time where the right location for publishing forms is.

hank you very much for this info. I'll check out the solutions you
suggest.
As for why the forms need to be deleted- well, that's what the user
wants, and user has to get what user wants.
I will re educate them on where forms should be published in the
future.
Once again, thanks.
