Help - Trying to Place My Folders in Order

Post by Ynpiam » Wed, 06 Oct 2004 07:59:03

I have 8 parent folders and the Outlook Today (folder). I am trying to order
(move) these folders, so they will be alphabetical, but I am unsucessful. I
have followed the Outlook Help steps to move a folder:

1. In the Folder List, click the folder you want to move.
2. On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Move Folder name.
3. Either click in the list the location where you want to move the folder,
or click New to create a folder to move the selected one to.

I cannot proceed past step 2, because there isn't a Move Folder option. I
can only do this if I go into the subfolders. Also, this does not organize
the folders' order, it only places one folder in another folder.

That's all that does. The folder list is in alphabetical order following a
tree hierarchy and you cannot change that. To rearrange the order you would
need to rename the folders, using numbers or letter combinations that will
sort in the order you want. Not very practical.

What if it gets out of order somehow. I have the following in my Folder List:
Archive Folder
Personal Folder
Public Folder
Outlook Today

Even I know that's not in alphabetical order. I'm afraid that something is
very, very, very wrong.

That's not a list of folders, it's a list of open mail stores (like PST
files). Completely different. Folders live in mail stores. Mail stores are
listed by the order in which they are opened.

Help - Trying to Place My Folders in Order

Ok, but they're still sorted alphabetically. I finally figured out that the
Outlook Today mail store is sorted by what's in the bracket, ie:
Outlook Today - [Username]
instead of the O in Outlook Today. So if I have say:
Outlook Today - [Zappa, Frank]
It's going to be at the bottom of the list.

My problem now is that it should be listed as:
Outlook Today - [Mailbox - Username]
which would put it between the Archive Folders and Personal Folders like I
need.

I've found where this is stored in the local registry, but I'm not sure if
changing it will solve my problem. Do you know where the bracketed info is
stored? In AD, on Exchange Server or Local Registry?

Thanks,
John

It's an actual Microsoft problem. Who woulda thunk it?
