Access linked ODBC tables, connection failed error msg

Post by BARBARA FL » Sat, 15 Nov 2003 21:42:09

Hi,

Im an ODBC novice and am having a problem that an old hand
would probably know about!

I have an Access database which has some linked ODBC
tables to an Oracle database.
I get an error "ODBC - connection to 'oracleDBname'
failed".

I have tried going into "Data Sources ODBC" in Control
panel and creating a System DSN, with Driver Microsoft
ODBC for Oracle.
The DataSource Name parameter matches the DNS name for the
Linked tables in Access, and the UserName parameter is the
username I can successfully connect to the oracle DB with -
though there is no space to enter the password.

Am I doing somehting wrong or is there anything else I
should be doing to get this to work?

thanks very much for any help!

Barbara

Thanks for your response John.

The table does have a primary key, so I think that should be fine. And as
far as I know, the table design was not changed, but perhaps something
happened there. I'm not sure how to relink the tables. I didn't design this
database, so I'm afraid I don't know all the ins and outs of its construction.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions, I'd really appreciate your help.
I've tried restoring backups of the database, but the same problem keeps
happening. This is a heavily used database so I need to get it up and
running.
