Adding Add-ins after a Service Pack is installed

Post by Sko » Mon, 16 Feb 2004 07:56:06

I have Office 2000 CD's that came with my computer when I originally bought it in 2000. I had the system rebuilt by the vendor last year and I believe they used Office 2000 SR-1 CD's when they did this. I now want to add some Excel Add-ins but my CD's are not the version that is being prompted for. I also cannot upgrade to SR-3 for the same reason. I am looking for anyway around uninstalling/reinstalling Office to get these add-ins. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi, JJ,

You'll need to get the CDs from the vendor.

You could try this, but I'm not sure if it will work:

Microsoft has released English and Japanese versions of an update for Office
2000. Installing this update will allow Office 2000 users to install 'full
file' patches for that release without inserting the CD. There may still be
a few cases in which the source is needed, but testing shows that it handles
the majority of the scenarios.

To take advantage of this feature, the system will need to be at the Office
2000 SR1 level, and Windows Installer 2.0 must be installed.

The details are covered in

provides links to the downloads.

What the vendor did - is it legal?

What--installing Office 2000 when you had a license for Office 2000?

I wouldn't think there would be any problem with that, as long as the
license was the same. If they installed Office 2000 Professional when you
are licensed for Office 2000 Small Business Edition, then there's a problem.
