Upgrading to Office Pro 2007 or Office Small Business 2007

I recently purchased a new pc with Vista. Have existing pc with Windows XP
and Office Small Business 2003. I want to be able to upgrade both PC's to
either Office Small Business 2007 or Office Pro 2007 but have been told that
new pc must have full purchase version and not upgrade. Any ideas on the
cheapest alternative. Second pc will be used by kids for school and wife( who
is a teacher and brings tons of work home).

The qualifying products for an upgrade to Office 2007 are here:

http://www.yqcomputer.com/

If you purchase retail either Office Small Business 2007 or Office
Professional 2007, the End User License Agreement {EULA} allows you to
install on one desktop and one portable device for your use only but at the
same time. From you OP, you likely are not meeting the for you use only
requirement.

You may want to consider purchasing a upgrade edition of your choice for
Office 2007 for your computer {I assume that your use is commerical}. And
purchasing Office 2007 Home and Student for your wife and kids. Office 2007
Home and Student allows insallation on up to 3 computers for non-comerical
use. Office 2007 Home and Student {in US} is available at places like
Amazon.com, Staples etc for well under $150.

Don,
Thanks for the advice. My use is not commercial in nature, meaning I use it
for my own personal use. I do have my own work issued laptop that I use for
the company that I work for. However, I often save work to a flash drive and
bring home and work on home pc so that I don't have to lug my laptop
everywhere.

Additional question: Because my wife is a teacher, I think she qualifies
for educational discount on several different versions of office. Couldn't I
verify this and then, if true, buy versions that way?

As far as I know, Microsoft has no way of determining and likely no interest
if you occasionally bring work home.

Someone else will need to provide you information on academic editons and
educational discounts. Your wife may want to check with her school
administration.
