SBS 2k3 SMTP "Messages Pending Submission"

Incoming mail stuck in SMTP "Messages Pending Submission"
For some weeks now have SBS 2k3 Premium server that on reboot will get
incoming mail stuck in queue SMTP "Messages Pending Submission" It is
using Trend CSM for SMB. Server is fully patched to date including
Exchange 2003 sp1a and hotfix. This problem was present before the
Exchange sp1a. All recommended files are excluded on Server for Trend.
To free mail I try to stop SMTP mail service, which will not stop,
then shut down machine and reboot. This clears all mail and runs
faultlessly till next reboot, usually after Windows update patch
install. No unusual messages in log. This is the only way that I can
get e-mail flowing.
Trolling thro Google it seems to be an issue so I downloaded Trend
Support patch SMEX62-patch.exe. On trying to install error message as
follows
"Wrong Product Version can only be installed if you are running
Scanmail for Microsoft Exchange 6.2 (build 1098)"

Checked our files all build 1075 so presumably we need patch to alter
the build to higher than 1098. Our Version of Scanmail for Exchange is
6.21 Build 1075.
Have been in touch with our Trend suppliers and given all above
details, but no response from them. Incidently I have a test server
on a separate domain installed as above and that also has the same
problem, and can only free mail off as above workaround.
Please can anyone advise of remedy or which patch to sort this issue?

thanks Percy

I had a similar problem recently and it had to do with my
spam filter. We were running GFI Mail Essentials and it
had a problem with messages that had a % in the message
id. Are you running GFI or some other spam filter?

Hi Corey
We are not running any apam filters at all. Just a plain SBS 2003
Premium install with Trend CSM for SMB.

I am having the exact same problem. The only way I have found to clear it is
a 2nd reboot.

A customer of ours is having the exact same problem. One the stuck queue
occurs I can unstick it by "End Tasking" Inetinfo.exe. However, I think the
problem has something to do with Trend and SBS POP3 connector. We have
exactly the same setup (minus the POP3 mail) and do not have the problem.

I will try and disable the POP3 at the client and see if the problem
reoccurs.

i John
I have obtained the patch from Trend smex6_21_B1122.exe but this has
made no difference at all, on a re-boot with no mail in the queue the
first and subsequent e-mails in sticks, if there is mail in the queue
a reboot will clear it. Alternatively I too have found that stopping
the Inetinfo.exe service gets mail flowing again, at least stopping
this service has taken a lot of the pain away from the problem. I have
sent the followup and awaiting a reply from our Trend supplier in the
UK, I downloaded CSM for SMB from Trend USA in December 03, long
before its release in the UK and as it seems to have a low build
number of 1075 and the SMEX62-patch.exe requires build 1098, I wonder
if the users with no problems have a later build or not? Although the
server is patched with all the Microsoft Patches, I have got no Trend
Patches installed, other than the one listed above.
