"Requested registry access is not allowed" when writing to eventlog!

Post by Richar » Sat, 11 Nov 2006 17:40:49

Hi,

We have orchestrations that writes to the event log using the
System.Diagnostics.EventLog. Everything works fine during development.

However when we run it on the test server we get some problems. Apparently
we don't have the right registry permissions to set up a new event source
(We write to the standard Application queue but with a custom event source).
We get a "Requested registry access is not allowed" from BizTalk Server 2006
source!? All host run under a user that I've tried to add to the
administrators group - that didn't work ... Still same problem. I've also
tried to give the user the right permissions according to this article
http://www.yqcomputer.com/ 't work ... Isn't the user
of the BizTalk host instance that writes ..? Idea`? I'm missing something?

Thanks

Richard

Hello Richard,

The windows account that is configured for the host is used when you write
to the eventlog from an orchestration.
We had similar problems. We solved this by creating the event source in a
custom step in the setup/deployment proces for the BizTalk application.
This will prevent the host user from having to create the event source at
run-time.

If you want to investigate your problem any further or do not like the solution
described above you can use regmon.exe utility to find out why registry access
is not allowed and for which user account.

Richard:

Please see this Blog entry:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
It involves modifying the registry but is different from the Microsoft
article.
