ODBC 2.9 TC5 DSN questions

I am trying to setup a DSN for MS Access using ODBC 2.9-TC5 on a IDS
9.4 engine. I have never used a DSN before. After setting up the DSN
all I get are -7778 errors. I can connect to the DB if I do not use a

My main interest in using a DSN was from reading that you can allow for
dirty reads in MS Access. If anyone knows what options you need to
stuff in there please share!!!

Hmm... I don't know about the -7778 error. Can you provide the full
error message? I need more clues to help out on this one...

As for why you're setting up a DSN, I believe you're referring to
Informix bug 176910 which requested that a means be established to set
isolation level for an ODBC connection other than programmatically...
This bug was not included in the 2.90.TC5 release. If you need this
functionality, please contact IBM Tech Support and request a patch for
bug 176910.

The CSDK 2.90.TC5 release is CSDK 2.90.TC4 but built with GLS 4.00.TC8
instead of GLS 4.00.TC6. This CSDK release was needed for the iDS
10.00.TC5 release, in which there is a known problem that archecker
fails to execute due to GLS initialization if anything other than CSDK
2.90.TC5 (or more specifically, a CSDK built with GLS 4.00.TC8) is

The exact error is "Reserved error -7778. There is no message for this
error" That narrows it down!!!<grin>.

I had assumed the TC5 release would fix the bug, I am amazed how long
it takes IBM for fix things....

Refer to http://www.yqcomputer.com/
This page has a video tutorial showing how to connect to Informix via
ODBC. Although the tool used is not MS Access, you will get an idea of
how to use it.

Thanks for the link Jason but after reading my initial post I did not
mak myself clear enough. We having working ODBC connectivity with MS
Access and Informix. It is when we try and use FILE DSN that we get
that error code. I was reading a different thread where it was
mentioned that a FILE DSN can have the connection string modifed to
allow for dirty reads but the current Informix ODBC drivers do not work
with it. A patch is required.

Here was the thread:
