Problem with kernel 2.4.21-138-smp

Post by lpd2 » Wed, 14 Jan 2004 20:50:20

I am tring to start module hangcheck-timer at SLES8 SP3 kernel
2.4.21-138-smp, but after the hangcheck_tick seconds the machine
always reboots.
The hangcheck_timer works fine at SLES8 SP2 kernel 2.4.19-64GB-SMP.

The command to load the module:
insmod hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=30 hangcheck_margin=180

Machine models: DELL 2500, DELL 2600, DELL 6650

Anybody could help me?
Thanks!
Mr.Cavalin.

This is not an official kernel. Where did you get it from? What
distribution are you using? I suggest you try the latest 2.4 kernel
(2.4.24 as of this writing), just compile it yourself.

Are you sure, how could I verify whether a kernel is official or not?
Regards.

Official, vanilla kernels have a version like "2.4.24", without any
"-132" or "-smp" behind it.

Problem with kernel 2.4.21-138-smp

Hi,

he is using SuSE Linux Enterprise Version!
That means: Do not use the non-tested self-compile kernels.
Only use the extensive SuSE Oracle tested kernel from SuSE which have
indeed this -132-smp behind!

SLES has service packs.

Contact SuSE for the right kernel!

regards,

Toni
