A little thread I stumbled onto this morning...A sad sign of our time :

NULLS equals NULLS ?

Post by Cimod » Wed, 28 Feb 2007 06:01:28

Once again Censorship has striken....

A letter from the editor...with my response to him...It is coming from
SQLServerCentral.com after I exposed a self aggrandizing ignorant...I
am probably banned by now...

Ladies and gentlemen...

I have received the following letter from the Moderator Steve Jones...

It should be censored in the next few minutes but it is an
intimidation attempt...I let people judge for themselves (Probably my
last post in this board as my account will probably get removed
quickly...)

When somebody publishes rubbish, one has to accept to stand publicly
be challenged...

I pointed out fallacies and justified them with examples and sound
proofs. Not convinced? Produce one thread where the main purpose of my
critisism was not the argument itself...

OTOH, how did you react when some people called me **hole, mean .
Isn't that a direct personal attack?

Pointing out people's ignorance is a part of what makes boards such as
yours useful...Take away that possibility to challenge people's
fallacies and board such as yours become empty product oriented shells
and basically useless to the database community...

Let me spare you the pain to justify what is nothing more than a
censorship from your part .

This contribution was the first and last posted on your crappy forum
who vehiculates nothing but fallacies...Just remove my account...By
this attitude, it is not me you are hurting but the community and the
state of database management in general...

Thanks and good luck in *moderating*...

Condescending? A scold? /You?/ Nooooo! ;-)

Cimode, the first rule of getting your point across to someone or correcting
their error /is to make them like you!/

Just a suggestion ....

The management of nulls is a mandatory task.
The thread provides reasonable advice.

The question is "Can you improve upon it"?
[ie: the advice]

At some point one must call a spade a spade...(I realize I begin to
sound like Bob Badour eeirk)...

Was banned after the editor Steve Jones declared that I have never
responded to him. He simply and blankly lied. If I am not mistaken F
PASCAL had once posted an article on dbdebunk called *On what they
hide....* (not sure). It has different meaning now...

At the end of the thread and the exposing of MIke C, some posters
started to ask the right questions and told themselves that they
should be more knowledgeable about database theory. That was my only
purpose and only satisfaction...It would not be totally unreasonnable
to assume this would not have happened if I had not taken a clear cut
attitude to ward Mike C...

To the extent that Bob Badour has the excuse of being exasperated one too
many times by the repetitive, clueless posts to this group, I sympathize
with him rather than you.

But beyond that, Cimode, you /just don't get it/, do you?

*Sigh*

Man,

When I go to the web page, I'm given an "access denied". Can you tell me,
briefly, that the topic is about?

I figure anybody who can say "management of nulls is a mandatory task" (a
correct statment) can sort out the pragmatic stuff from the religious cant.

You may need to register for that...Either way that board is
worthless...

What to say about a writer that confuses *Systematic treatment of
missing data* as an *OK for using NULLS*. What to say about a writer
who, provided with simple proofs of impact of using NULLS and a proof
that no using them will help avoid all sorts of crappy problems...What
to say about a person whose best mentor is an self aggrandizing
ignorant such Joe CELKO...Finally what to say about an editor (Steve
Jones) who banned my account for so called unprofessional conduct and
left people who used terms such as **hole and **mean without producing
a single sound argument...

When you hear something such as *systematic treatment of missing data*

handling NULLS's destructive impact should be done applicatively
instead of simply not using them at all, you get irritated. When
after providing code to show NULL absurdity and showing it is possible
to totally get rid of NULLS at design time and demonstrating the
absurdity of claims made people just stick to their silly beliefs,
insult you then censor you, how would you react...If you sympathize
with people like that then I am sorry for you....

More to the point, why say anything at all about it, in this newsgroup?

To inform people about what sources of informations may be reliable
and what boards should be ignored...SQLServerCentral.com is just pure
crap...Given the censorship it portrayed. I am even thinking about
testing one board/week to see the value board's editor place truly
place in data management real education and post the results. That
way unexperienced audiences may be warned before going into these
boards about what they may or may not expect in terms of *expertise*...
