Cisco 3640 Config NM-16sw Internal Lan Ethernet to Cable Router doing NAT

Cisco 3640 Config NM-16sw Internal Lan Ethernet to Cable Router doing NAT

Post by Chri » Wed, 14 Jun 2006 08:30:08

I have always had my 3640 doing NAT. Now I want to let the ISP's
routers that I am connected to do it.

My internal network is is my 3640 VLAN1

My external networks are: ISP1 is a router doing nat or it can be
configured with Public IPs. ISP2 is a modem doing nat or it can be
configured with Public IPs.

What I need to know is how do I get the VLAN traffic to the ISP's
routers without doing NAT on th 3640?

I have read a little on bridging and it seems like that may be what I
need, but I am not sure.

The reason I am doing this is because it is my understanding that NAT
is completely process switrched and with the current bandwidth that I
have available the 3640 can't process switch that many packets.

If I am in error and NAT does not have to be processed switched, I
would be interested in hearing any input on how to no process switch

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

1. can't see other networks on my cisco 3640 router (runing config inc.)

2. Upgrading the Cisco IOS on Cisco router 3640.

I will need to upgrade the Cisco IOS on the above-mentioned Cisco
router 3640 so that I can use it as a VPN gateway for a project. I
already obtained the instructions involved from Cisco's website site.
However, when I change the configuration register from 0x2102 to
0x2101 and reboot the router, the router does not go into RxBoot Mode.
I have a Cisco router 2503 at home which uses the same Cisco IOS
upgrade instructions as the Cisco router 3620 and when it is put into
RxBoot mode, it displays this prompt i.e.router(boot)> were 'router'
is the name of the router after changing the configuration register to
0x2101 and rebooting the router. The Cisco instructions also states
that you cannot upgrade the Cisco IOS on the router in priviledged
mode i.e.router#.
Any answers will be greatly appreciated.
