ODBC-connection problems with Access application on terminal server

Post by Knorp » Fri, 20 Mar 2009 01:39:28

Dear group,

we have a small Access program running on a Windows 2003 terminal server
which uses some linked tables. These are linked via an ODBC connection to a
Oracle database.

The needed Oracle ODBC driver is installed on the terminal server and there
is one ODBC connection defined in the control panel.

This works very well for several clients, but one or two see an ODBC
connection error at startup.

Well, the way I see it the ODBC connection should work for all clients or
for none, because it connects the terminal server to the database server.
So, I have no idea where to look or what to test.

It would be nice if someone could give me some hints to find some kind of
starting point.

Is your ODBC connection setup for just that user or for the system.
User connections might have some issues with settings in the registry.
Old ODBC also used some INI settings and if the user does not have at
least read access to the INI then you can not connect.

A more detailed description of your error might also help. Also, if
you have no users connected then can your odd users connect? Meaning,
do you have a limit? Is it the same users over and over that can never
connect?

It's for the system.

Well, there is a message box saying that there is a problem opening the ODBC
connection. Should I post the exact phrase?

No. There is no traffic on the server yet.

Well, I hope you can help. We still walk around in the darkness...
