ODBC Connection to SQL Server failing

ODBC Connection to SQL Server failing

Post by Sm9obiBNb3 » Fri, 07 Jan 2005 11:49:02

I finished up an application that uses an ODBC connection to SQL Server. I
installed the application on my pc running windows 2k professional and it
works great. I installed the same application on a client pc running xp
professional and set up an ODBC driver to the same SQL Server database. For
some reason, I cannot connect from the client pc even though I tested the
connection during the ODBC driver setup. The only reference that I added to
the application was the Microsoft Active Data Objects 2.7. Can someone help?

My Connection String: DSN=<myDataSource>;UID=<myUser>;Pwd=<myPassword>;

Sample code for connection:

Dim cn as new ADODB.Connection
cn.open(My Connection String)

ODBC Connection to SQL Server failing

The error description is "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name
not found and no default driver specified.". I thought it may have something
to do with XP Pro, so I intalled my app on another client with XP Pro. I had
to set up a File DSN to get it to work. I tried the same on the original
machine with no progress. Is there a better method of data access and
manipulation for SQL Server? Thank you for your response.
