Unable to Read .DBF Files

Post by Hary » Thu, 22 Jun 2006 04:38:40

Folks,
I'm trying to load FoxPro data into Oracle table's using Datastage ETL
Tool.i got the zip file which contains the complete Foxpro Tables.I
able to read one .dbf file out of 100 files.when i try to read other
.dbf files through ODBC stage, its throwing this error:

SQLSTATE=01000, DBMS.CODE=1295
[DataStage][SQL Client][ODBC][DataDirect][ODBC dBase driver]Table is
read-only, it is part of a database: edutrans.dbc
I try to change the file permissons from read only to full
permissions,but its not allowing.
But atleast its not allowing me to read the file.
Any ideas..

Thanks,
Hary

Hi Hary,

The dBase driver is only compatible with older versions of FoxPro files -
through version 2.6. Since your error message references a DBC file your
tables are Visual FoxPro tables (versions 3 and above). Not only that, new
data features were added to VFP tables in versions 7 and above that are not
compatible with ODBC; tables with those features are only accessible via OLE
DB. However, tables created with VFP7-9 that do not use any of the new data
features will be accessible via ODBC.

The latest FoxPro ODBC driver is downloadable from
msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates/odbc and the latest FoxPro and
Visual FoxPro OLE DB data provider is downloadable from
msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates .

I have never worked with FoxPro files and Oracle databases. If Oracle has an
OLE DB-compatible way of accessing "outside" data then you might try that
approach.

Is their any way to convert all foxpro tables into text files.
Thanks,

Hi Hary,

If you've got FoxPro you can copy them to any of several text file formats,
and also to Excel spreadsheets.
