Change System DSN on all machines

Change System DSN on all machines

I am doing a SQL server swap this weekend. The database is moving to a
new server and getting a new more understandable name.

All users (some 150) have a system DSN pointing to the existing server
and database.

Anybody know of a good way (other than visiting each machine) of
changing all the DSN's to point to the new values?

All machines are Windows 2000 (some XP)

Change System DSN on all machines

System DSNs are stored in the registry. If you manually make the change on one machine, then export
the registry key to a .REG file, you can distribute that file to all users. With a simple script
you can have the reg file executed on each user's machine. Of course, there are several other
options, but this one is pretty simple.

The registry key is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI
