Dear list,

I use gentoo linux and Xemacs. The swedish keyboard works OK with
everything except Xemacs where I only get
dead-acute dead-grave dead-diaresis dead-circumflex dead-tilde

as response from those keys

Please how do I tweak Xemacs behavoir?

Best wishes Fredrik

Give us some more information on your X11 version, your XEmacs version, and
the version of your keyboard layout. I can reproduce this locally with
21.4.17 on

vendor string: The XFree86 Project, Inc
vendor release number: 40400000
XFree86 version: 4.4.0

but there were some issues fixed with modifier keys before the 21.4.17
release. (In theory, the dead accent keys aren modifier keys, but these
things can work in myserious ways with XFree86.)

Thanks for your answer,

I use Xemacs 21.4.15-r3 and X.org-X11-6.8.0-r5 with keyboard layaout
'General 102-keys (international) PC' in swedish. I think I should
emphasise that I only have this problem with Xemacs. Everything works OK
with nano, Kedit, OO-writer and Abiword and in the konsole with bash.
I certainly would appreciate if someone found a solution to the problem.

Best from Fredrik

As a workaround you could define keymaps for these keys, e.g.:

(require 'iso-insert)

(setq mute-acute-map (make-sparse-keymap))

(define-key mute-acute-map "a" 'insert-a-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "A" 'insert-A-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "e" 'insert-e-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "E" 'insert-E-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "i" 'insert-i-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "I" 'insert-I-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "o" 'insert-o-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "O" 'insert-O-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "u" 'insert-u-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "U" 'insert-U-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "y" 'insert-y-acute)
(define-key mute-acute-map "Y" 'insert-Y-acute)

(global-set-key [(dead_acute)] mute-acute-map)

Ditto for the other dead keys (or mail me if you want my definitions).
