katakis (rambo) used to work, now it doesn't

Hi there.
I'm trying to get the rambo cracked version of katakis running
but after the intro with the rambo theme,
the drive thrashes back and forth for a few seconds, then I get the ready prompt. This happens on the real thing and the latest version of vice.
I remember way back in late 1996 when I downloaded the rambo cracked version and used star commander to transfer it to a real c64, it worked perfectly,
but now, both vice and the real thing positively hate it.
I downloaded 2 copies of it from arnold and noname.c64.org with the same results.
What has changed? is there any way to get it working again?
I can understand vice not liking it, vice isn't perfect and is still under development,
but why now has it suddenly chosen not to work like it used to?

Hi,

I'm fixing your line length.

That's perfect emulation then. :-)

I checked an older CD, and my version (may I say this? ;-) cracked by
Jack Alien of Remember works in VICE. Linux here, but that shouldn't
matter.

hi there
Here is an email I'm sending to andreas
as well as to comp.emulators.cbm in the hope that
someone out there may have any ideas
What really puzzles me is how in 1996 was I able to get the
rambo crack working, and now I can't get the same version working
in 2008?
Has the rambo version on arnold and everywhere else been
replaced with a faulty copy? somehow I dont think so,
which leads me to believe that I must be transfering the d64 images
to the real thing with some broken settings, but I
can't for the life of me remember how I got it to work in 1996.
This is the strangest problem I've ever had with a
d64 image yet.
The only thing I can think of is how back then,
I never chose to format the disk during the
transfer operation.
Weird, huh?

Katakis' extremely fast disk turbo expects the sector header ID's to
have the value "AA". So, preformat the disk with "N0:WHATEVER,AA"
first.
