WinVice Problem...

Post by TheSpid » Wed, 22 Oct 2003 10:37:06

Hiya y'all,

Hope someone can help....

Tonight I was using WinVice (x64) on Win98, and decided to save my settings.
Now I cannot get x64 to run. It starts then cancels itself.
Odd thing is that I can still run x128 etc no problem at all.
Have even deleted the folder and reinstalled it from my download.
This gives me the same result :(

Hello Peter,

see

Anyway, deleting the folder - thus, deleting the vice.ini file - should
be enough.

Spiro.

What for... Now, You have to make all settings from zero. Why
didn't You just edit *.ini in notepad? I'm not sure, but I had a
same-like problem with x128. It cancels itself during every startup,
when I previously leave it in FullScreen mode. So, I edited the
"vice.ini" file changing entry "FullscreenEnabled=1" to
"FullscreenEnabled=0" in "[C128]" section. I think it's possible
either with the joystick.

BTW, well, I think i found the bug... :-)

Hiya Marsjanin,

"What for..." ... well, even if I had done that the saving with joystick
option again, even after edit of *.ini, the same bug would have been there.
It was only cured by downloading the new 'a' version as suggested by Spiro.
Also, I am pretty new to WinVice, and had no clue what I was looking at in
all the *.ini options, and certainly not anything relevant to the problem I
was having.
(Not new to working a *.ini file though, as I use one with Euphoric [Oric
emulator] all the time.)

A bug, yes, but You could keep then other settings.

So, You could "install" WVICE "a" in other location, and then,
check and compare the ini file in both locations.

If so... I'm not very advanced too, but when that happend to me
with X128 fulscreen mode, I just was wonder, what's wrong... :-)

Hiya Marsjanin,

No problem my friend.
May I ask what your native language is?

I deleted the files out of desparation. Would have worked if not for the
joystick settings bug.
I always keep my install zips and files. Never know when you need them
again, and in these days of CD-R's etc, there is no excuse for having no
storage. LOL - I even have about 16 100meg zip disks sitting doing nothing
ever since getting my CD burner.

Polish. I live in Poland.

Yeah, but I rather meant the long configure process - I had to
re-enter the settings for video fullscreen modes for three emulators,
when it's crashed. Few times... :-) Then i decided to open the
vice.ini file and try to edit it manually. :-]

Right, I have not CDRW drive, but I can go to one of my friends
(or Internet Cafe, and pay) with HDD when I need. Because I'm using
modem, I store even the programs, that I D/L by the mistake, or that
ones, I will not need anymore. That's kind of respect for the time of
sucrified internet connection time for this. :-))) And maybe sb else
can use that prgs from my CDs... :-]
