Web References - XMLA complex types - problem

Post by Bob » Fri, 31 Oct 2003 02:07:26

Hi ALL!
I created Web Services which expose Execute and Discovery
methods. When I tried to connect to the in C++ .Net app
through Web References wizard it says that complex types
in web methods make a problem (BTW I have the same
problem in Excel VBA).
What can I do if these types are standard XMLA types?
Will I have any chance to connect? Any ideas? I also
wondering whether anybody seen the way to connect Excel
PivotTable to XMLA Provider?
Best regards,
Bob

> Hi ALL!

Maybe you can define those complex types as xml documents and do processing
inside your app.

Why would you want to do it ? Why not connecting to the Analysis Services
directly ?

Discovery
types
documents and do processing
Do you mean that Microsoft is not going to add ability to
connect directly to such methods?
connect Excel
Analysis Services
We would like to expose Web access from Excel and other
clients to XMLA Provider. Do you know any other clients
(e.g. Crystal products) which I can try to do it?
Thank you in advance for your help.

You can also write custom serializers/deserializers. I thought that working
with xml document would be simpler.

Both Excel and Crystal can connect to Analysis Services through Web.

After you set up the HTTP connectivity (i.e. setting msolap.asp etc), in
Excel simply specify http://servername instead of servername for the server
name
