Maya 5 camera & aim problem

Post by Vedran Kle » Mon, 19 Jan 2004 06:46:14

Hello ,this is my first mail on this group. When i make a keyframe for the
camera, the connection with the aim looses. I tried manualy make that type
of camera with regular camera, locator and aim constrain, but it happens
again. The connection loose. This is only happening with fifth version. Is
there a bug? Or something s change...
Sorry on a bad language. Thanks!

The upgrade 5.1 (120mb) maybe fix the problem. The pdf documentation sais
something about the constrained camera, that the options is changeble from
the fifth version, and in the 5.1 upgrade, camera constrain is fixed.

bye!

That depends on what you are keyframing. Camera is connected to Aim by the
Rotation transform, so moving the Aim changes the rotation of the Camera. If
you keyframe everything that is related to the Camera (which you usually do
if you use a hotkey), you keyframe the rotation of the Camera as well, which
overwrites the previous dependancy on Aim.

Solution is to keyframe only the translation (translateX,Y,Z) of the Camera
and leave the rotation alone.

I would love that the thing about the tools is the problem (its too simple
that could be thruth:)). Its no use even if i mark the World, Object or
Along Rotation Axis option. I do the key only with the translation ( i move
the camera, and then i press the -s- for the first keyframe that the all
keys after i can get automaticly with the autokeyframe in on mode. Thanks
for the answer:), but untill now, with Maya 4 and 4.5, never had that kind
of problem.

Hm, unless the -s- key breaks the dependency by default (which, as you said,
in 4 and 4.5 didn't), it does seem like a bug.

I tried this on 5.0.1 and everything was normal, so I guess 5.0.1 update
fixes it and your original assumption was correct.

the same... I will go back to the 4.5 or download the upgrade, deppending on
needs...
Well, thank you anyaway!

Select only the translate keys in the channels for the Camera,
right-click'em and do "set key". If _that_ breaks the aim constraint, well,
... darn it :) If it doesn't, you could script yourself a command that
keyframes only the translation of the selected object.
But if 5.0.1 fixes it, I'm not sure why bother (unless it's just for the fun
of it :)).

Have fun,

I ve made it:). All the three Rotate nodes in the channelbox are marked with
blue what is different from the previous versions. I dont know what is that
meaning, but i have locked them and now it works.

Thank you anyway,

The blue indicates that a channel is constrained to another object, in this
case the camera's rotation is orient-constrained to the aim locator. You seem
to have solved the problem above (I have never seen it and I have been working
with 5 for months), but you should download 5.0.1 anyway, especially if you
have Maya locking up on exit. Maya would crash 30% of the time when I closed
it until I installed 5.0.1, which erased the problem.

Thanks.
I was thinking the "lock on" option in the Channel box of the Camera- right
mouse button on Rotate nodes; only then i couldnt rotate the "Camera & aim"
without the aim-constrain what is i acctualy wants. The "Camera & aim" that
is depending on aim-constrain.
The problem was in that program lets me rotate the Camera allthroug the
camera was constrained to the aim-locator ( like normal camera without the
locator ). When i was rotating her like its broken, the locator was standing
in one place with direction line showing me space in the camear-view.
In previous versions i couldnt rotate "Camera & aim" without the aim. I
could rotate her only with the aim-locator.
Well, the upgarde will probbably allso fix this problem Who have it, and
that would be the second solution...
Sorry on the bad language.
