How can I focus the active object

How can I focus the active object ?
So that I can tumble around the object I'm working on easily.

(The center of the tumbling (my strange english) should be in the
center of the object.)

Like pressing the f key in Maya when an object is selected...

The camera in Cinema always rotates around the objects zero
coordination. If this is not in the center, you can move it there. But
that is not necessary. Just go to point mode or polygone mode and select
a point or polygone. It becomes the rotation center for as long as it is
selected. I find it easier doing it this way and leaving the object
coordinates as they are, because mostly I neeed them for later
references. Good luck!

The problem is, if the object was created in another application, it's
reference point may be to 0,0,0 rather than it's actual location. You can
move the reference point by selecting the "Use Texture Axis Tool" and move
it in the viewports to suit. Then when this object is selected the viewport
will spin around it.

Often with large complex scenes (I work mostly with architecture) I create a
few 'Null Objects' around the scene and select them as need be to rotate
around.

How can I focus the active object

Thanks Void and Adrian
but I got the solution with the axis tool later this morning on my
own.
The trick with selecting a point is a good work-around.

But I'm still not really satisfied. There was also a function in Maya
to center the axis in the middle of the object. (Center Pivot Point).
That one was really handy. Is there something like this? If not, I
have to ask Maxon to implement it.
(Or is there a free plugin out there?)

Just trying out some from www.plugincafe.com

Do a search under 'axis' and a few come up

Maxon calls it an object's "axis" and Alias calls it an object's "pivot"
I agree, something that centers the axis or pivot should be part of C4D
but for now there is a free plugin that works fine called Axis Center
by David O' Reilly at www.plugincafe.com

I have to say after using Maya for several years there is something
really refreshing about C4D and it's ease of use. Maya is becoming
very bloated and sometimes the simplest commands can be buried
several menu levels deep.
