I'm considering expanding my utilities.. has anyone seen a online comparison
anywhere? Is there a considered preference of one over the other? Does one
UV map better then the other?

Any particular reason? I just don't want to learn yet another app, and then
find out I prefer something different.

workflow reasons mainly. Had strange results with painting subd's and
deeppaint3D. Their LW plugin doesn't work properly. The bodypaint one
does..... although the stretching error/bug in LW you might have heard of
isn't resolved - but that's obvious innit?

I use DeepPaint3D, but the only real problem is with starting out painting.
You have to have the UV map and surface maps created before the plug-in will
work. really just the surface maps but you need the UV map for the seamless
painting with projection painting. I usually bring the model directly into
DeepPaint3D then create maps, save them. Then open Modeler attach the maps
to the surfaces, than send the model to DeepPaint3D thru the plug-in and
begin your map painting. At this point the retrieve maps within Modeler
works fine. Ideally DeepPaint and Lightwave should work a little easier from
the start, but the plug-in is stuck at version 1 for some reason. Also the
I understand the old Texture Weapons add-on is included as part of
DeepPaint3D and a new product for UV'ing is DeepUV. I have not tried
BodyPaint but I used the DeepPaint 2D as a PhotoShop plug-in forever and got
credit towards the DeepPaint3D/DeepUV purchase.

Declaimer: I'm just a hobbyist, but I'd also recommend trying both demo's as
both the Body Paint and DeepPaint3D are rather expensive.

I assume you already have Steve Cox's UVMapper Pro for your Poser work, but
I understand that for UV work DeepUV is the heavy hitter. I have DeepUV but
I'm not an expert UV person by any means. ;)

Yeah deep uv is supposedly pretty damn good, and I figured someone here must
be using it. I dowloaded the demo of bodypaint, and the lightwave plugin,
but dfor some reason it won't send my object info properly to bodypaint.

It works on a few small sample object, just not the one I'm currently
working on.

I'll post a pic in binaries today, so you guys can see what I'm working
on...

must
I got curious and D/L'd the Bodypaint demo, it worked on my current painting
project which I'm using DeepPaint on. My be your objects where not UV'd or
something. Well so much for trying BodyPaint, don't want to bother leaning
it ....but the stokes did seem smooth using a Wacom pen. Back to DeepPaint.
