Pagemaker 7 to Pagemaker 5?

Hi everyone. I'm having a bit of (well, a huge) problem...
I'm a graphic designer and a client specifically asked me to make her a
newsletter in pagemaker (she has pagemaker and wants to be able to edit
it). I had never used Pagemaker before, but I was able to manage and
get the newsletter done.
Well, as I went to send her the newsletter today, she tried opening it
and couldn't. She told me she was using PM5, and I am using PM7.
Is there anyway for me to convert this file to a PM5 file? This is a
huge setback and I'm almost afraid of the answer to my question. In
most Adobe products you can export to older versions, but PM7 doesn't
have that option.
Thanks in advance for your help!

PageMaker 5 is obsolete. Your client should upgrade to PageMaker 7 or go
directly to InDesign. InDesign can open your PageMaker file (although it
cannot resave it as a PageMaker file). There may be some aspects that
have to be reworked after the conversion, but it shouldn't be a big
deal. The current mess is not your responsibility; it's your client's.
You did what she asked; the fact that she is running unsupported
software is not your problem.

I totally agree and I thank you for your quick response.
Unfortunately, she's a small business owner who really doesn't want to
upgrade because of money reasons and having to learn new software.
Trust me, I really didn't want to use Pagemaker after using InDesign
for so long.
Is there just no way to go backwards? I was looking that PM5 came out
in the mid 90s, ouch! I'm pretty sure there isn't going to be a way to
go backwards, but I just want to be absolutely sure before I tell her
no. I don't think it's looking good though...

Well, technically that may not be true ... but for any real practical
purpose it is.

PageMaker 7 does have Save As to PageMaker 6.5 ability.

If you could then find someone that still has PageMaker 6.5 it may be
able to Save As to PageMaker 6, but unfortunately I skipped 6.5 so I'm
not sure if it actually can.

If you could then find someone that still has PageMaker 6, it should be
able to Save As to PageMaker 5.

BUT,
because you are going backwards through so many versions, you're likely
to lose any of the fancy stuff you may have done - the bits that simply
weren't possible in the older versions.

You may also hit a stumbling block if at some stage through that
backwards Save As trip you have to go from Mac to Windows versions (or
vice-versa).
