What's the way to use wmf file?

Normally I don't use a whole wmf file. So I open it up in
Illustrator, modify it to what I want. Then saved it and embed
it as a new wmf file in Pagemaker or Quark. Is that okay? I
heard people say save it and embed it as an eps file, but I don't
see why.

As with most stuff, it depends. WMF (or, preferably, EMF) is an RGB
format. When you bring it into Illustrator, you can convert it to CMYK
and then save it in any of several appropriate formats, EPS probably
being the most useful. But if you resave it as WMF or EMF, you're back
to RGB. That's fine if you are printing to an office digital printer
that can do the conversion on the fly, or if you are printing to an
inkjet printer. But if you are sending the job out to an offset house,
the RGB art is likely to cause some problems. At the very least, you'll
get unexpect color distortion.
