POV-Ray 3.5 "... execution of illegal instruction exception"

Post by agi7 » Thu, 06 Nov 2003 16:52:50

Hi,
after installing POV-Ray 3.5 on my computer I was ask to render the
Testpicture.
After Selecting Yes I got the following error message which aborts the
rendering.

"The POV-Ray rendering code caused an execution of illegal instruction
exception"

These message does appear every time I start the renderer. It does not
matter what POV-Ray-Code I choose to render.

Does anybody know the reason for my problem?

Thanx - Andreas.

the
instruction
not

What platform (is it Intel 386, Pentium or AMD?)? What OS? What POVray
did you download (windows, Linux, or did you get source and compile it
yourself?)?
How much RAM is in your system?
Were there other programs running at the time?

POV-Ray runs on my 1100 Mhz Pentium 4 with 512 MB. OS is NT4 with
Service Pack 5. My POV-Ray version is for windows and I have
downloaded the compiled 8MB-Version.
The problem appeared whether there are other programs or not.

bye - Andreas

Also it says it is only required for SP 4, maybe your SP 5 isn't
installed completely:
< http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ;

The thing is that your operating system is too old to properly support
all features of the Pentium 4, and POV-Ray will use those features if
it detects you are running a Pentium 4. In any case, I would strongly
suggest to upgrade the a more recent version of Windows, not only
because it is *very* old, but also because it has many *security*
problems...
