POV-RAY Text On A Box or Other Surface - How To?

Post by br_spambuc » Fri, 17 Jun 2005 01:23:34

Hi Folks,

I'm new to POV-RAY but really like it so far. What I can't figure out
how to do is put text onto an object in my 3D world. I found the
"text" function which puts text at the origin but this doesn't do what
I want. I would like to put something like a company name on the side
of a truck, or a street name on a street sign. There must be a way to
do this but I haven't found it yet. All advise greatly appreciated.

Please respond to this group.

Thanks,

Bill

Use the text object as an object_pattern, which you can then use
in a pigment or texture.

Use the text object, but make it quite thin and then place it where you
want... for example:

union
{
box
{
<-1, -1, -1>
<1, 1, 1>
pigment{White}
}
text
{
ttf "arial.ttf"
"Hello"
.001
0
scale .5
rotate<90, 0, 90>
translate<1, -.5, -.1>
pigment{Black}
}
}

You could always difference the text object from the box to give it an
etched look...
