problem with POV-Ray Mac 3.6.1 on an Intel Mac

Since upgrading to an Intel Mac (running OS X 10.4.8), it crashes on
launch. The crash log shows a EXC_BAD_ACCESS exception, which doesn't
tell me much. I'm just guessing that it's an incompatibility with
Rosetta, since it worked fine on my PowerPC Mac before.

Anybody know how to get this working? Or where I can find an Intel Mac
build?

Thanks,
- Joe

Have you tried the newsgroup povray.macintosh on the official
news.povray.org nntp server? The most recent message is from November,
and there are threads mentioning Mac POV 3.6 and a MegaPOV universal
binary, which leads me to believe that people in the know are more
likely to be there than here (not a Mac guy myself).

Joe

I experienced the same problem running Mac OS X 10.4.8 with an Intel
Core Duo. While the POV-Ray GUI is very helpul in designing the scene,
the user interface has caused some problems over the past few year with
Mac OS X. This is not the first upgrade of Mac OS X that has caused me
problems just launching the POV-Ray app or getting started. Usually
there is no problems with the rendering code.

I started toying with the idea of running a command-line only version
of POV-Ray. I don't know if anyone has successfully run a command-line
only version of POV-Ray on Mac OS X. I am thinking it might be possible
to get a Unix source build and compile and build a command-line only
version of POV-Ray? Does anyone think that is a worthy pursuit of time,
or should we just wait for an upgraded version of POV-Ray Mac?

Just an idea,

Johann

I have, for some years now. Haven't compiled it myself, I just downloaded
it somewhere (an unofficial build). There's also a port of 3.6.1 in
DarwinPorts ( http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ) which should work.

Should be quite possible. Do download the Unix-version instead of the
Mac-version (from mac.povray.org); the latter requires the CodeWarrior
compiler which is obsolete.
