Q: Adding speckle noise in POV-Ray

Q: Adding speckle noise in POV-Ray

Post by Cuebal » Fri, 27 Feb 2004 05:50:13

Hi,
I'm simulating a series of flourescence images of an object in POV-Ray for a project. In order to achieve a reasonable
photorealistic effect, I'd like to introduce speckle noise (hopefully that's the appropriate term) to create a degree of image granuilarity,
not just on the object but also from the background. Is there a way to generate the desired effect in POV-Ray?
TIA,
-Mark

Since the effect you're trying to simulate is something caused by the
film quality and not the actual objects themselves it sounds like you'll
be wanting to do post-processing on what POV-Ray gives you. Think
photoshop or gimp.

Or,
May be able to do it using radiosity and/or a
pigment_in_the_camera_block(often overlooked).
Media (atmosphere) can look 'grainy' with the right parameters.
If you (Mark) aren't familiar with those, read up on them, and
experiment.
(look in <povray_dir>/scenes/* for examples)
