Convert X10 Wireless Camera to Wired

Considering the unreliability of the wireless x10 cameras, has anyone
converted one to being wired, thus bypassing the wireless transmitter
on the camera and deriving the signal from the camera into an RCA

I have a number of these devices that I would like to use in a
security system but they are too unreliable in their wireless mode.

What's the unreliability about, distance, or do they fall-out?

You may consider buying on eBay some cheap wired cameras, you get them
as from 30 dollars, and sometimes even an Infra Red and/or Bullitcam
version, there is only a small chance that they will be worse than the
x10 XCAM2; mind you I am not dissatisfied with them as it is WYPIWYG.

The only thing that is an advantage of the x10 cams is the wireless
part; I may buy a couple of them from you if you price them well and
when I understand that's the issue with them.
I modified an XCAM2 connecting a good bullit-cam to the x10
transmitter and taking the camera part out. You can do the other way
around also: take a look at the many sites that connect or host stuff
of Ido Bartana. Yahoo: Ido Bartana Modification x10.

I use my Xcams with my security system and have had no problems.

The main advantage for me is not the wireless aspect (I'd prefer wired) but
the ability to switch cameras under program control (I have an Ocelot).

To switch 4 hard-wired cameras this way would require some additional
(expensive?) hardware.

If it is the wireless aspect that is causing your reliability issues, try
relocating the receiver more centrally or moving its antenna. Turns out
these things are not really line-of-site but rather get the best signal from
a few bounces off walls (albeit with some ghosting to go-with).

Below are a couple of cam tinkering pages. Bottom link is how to
make a cheap switcher for wired cams.

RGONDZUR, can you be more specific on what is the unreliability about?
Maybe we can help you with interpreting what we get/see so that you
can use that when you should send them back?

I use the Ocelot to do Camera-Switching based upon which PIR trips it
turns on the related camera and switches off all other cameras. This
allows me to have 1 Audio/Video Receiver and go over the X-10 defined
maximum of 4 per set. As a result I can set all cameras to the same
frequency with one connection to the VCR. The extra hardware: an
appliance module and a standard 12volt transformer for each camera,
i.e. 5-8 $ each.
