Render bitmap using Direct3D

Hi to all!

I'm newbie to this Direct3d stuff, and I was wondering if someone can
help me out?!

I'm supposed to develop Character Generator, and my idea is this:
generate Bitmap using the graphic adapter through Direct3D and then
blend this bitmap on the video stream. So, I'm not interested in
presenting the bitmap on the screen, but simply to get the bitmap
buffer from the Direct3D and use it somewhere else. The graphics drawn
will be simple 2D objects and some text and bitmaps blended on it.

Is this posiibly to achieve? Can you give some directions or some
sample source code about this?
