TSO ALLOC command for tapes ....

Post by raquel_rod » Fri, 04 Feb 2005 21:39:58

ok, this is more of a TSO question..I want to allocate a new dataset
on a tape through TSO ALLOC command (and not through JCL). I tried the
following command:

ALLOC DATASET('USER1.TAPE.DATA') UNIT(CARTR) NEW

This fails:
IKJ56221I DATA SET USER1.TAPE.DATA NOT ALLOCATED, VOLUME NOT AVAILABLE

CARTR is the 'unit' we specify on the JCLs when we want any dataset to
be allocated on the tape.

TIA
Raquel.

Raquel,

Your TSO id must have MOUNT authority.

Presumably because you are not authorized to allocate tape drives to
your TSO session. You need to make a formal request, with
justification, to your security people. They will probably want to
know why you don't do whatever you need to do with the tapes in batch.

Thank you, Thank you guys for pinpointing the problem. I found a
superuser id which apparently does have MOUNT authority and this
solved my problem.

Thanks once again.
Raquel.
