I list many free IMAP providers on my IMAP Service Providers
page, starting in this section:

< http://www.yqcomputer.com/ #table>

There are more in The List that is immediately below The Table.

If you are going to be using IMAP, I recommend avoiding Eudora,
whose inventor famously said "LDAP is an *** " and "I'm
really looking forward to the day when people get IMAP and find
out just how much it sucks." The IMAP clients that I use
and recommend are:

Mulberry
Pine (both Unix- and PC-Pine)
Mozilla Mail/News

I haven't yet used Thunderbird, which is part of the Mozilla
Project, but a lot of people like that too.

Hope this helps,
Nancy

Have you been able to get Mozilla Mail/News to update new/unseen
counts for *all* IMAP folders? That's what was stopping me the last
time I tried converting to Moz for mail. I found some instructions
in Moz Bugzilla, but none of them worked for me. Any advice?

Bob

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for such an extensive compilation - in fact, I got lost a bit.

Would you pls recommend a particular or a few IMAP free emails ?

Also, I could Not guess your email - all 3 emails that I sent to you
came back, undelivered.

Thank you, Mike

Well, I don't really recommend free providers any more because
they are too prone to problems due to people abusing the free
accounts. But, if you insist on using a free account, I recommend
the FastMail.FM Guest account. Make sure you read the Warnings
and other things I have about them here:

< http://www.yqcomputer.com/ #FM>

No need to guess my email address -- the address in my From:
header is legit (because my "Reverse Spam Filtering" system
works!).

Hi -;

(nothing else? Maybe that's why you cannot get thru to Nancy -) )

look for

www.fastmail.fm

and read in

http://www.yqcomputer.com/

about it. I have a full account since a year, but I can recommend the
free one too.

Give it a try.

Hi Nancy,

I opened the a/c w/ fast mail and test drive w/ Eudora 4.2 to read the
messages.

I note that you cautioned me with Eudora - would Eudora 6 be better with
IMAP than Eudora 4.2?

I realized that Eudora is very popular client - is there another
similarly popular?

I have Eudora installed in the C drive but all the email a/cs are in the
partition - so that if I had to re image my C drive all my emails would
still be in tact - Eudora readily supports it!

Thank you, Mike

No. All versions of Eudora are *** IMAP clients.

The message you replied to contained a list of recommended IMAP clients,
see:

Did you not read the message before hitting reply?

<...>
FYI, all the warnings listed there have been resolved for some time
(no mail was redirected during the now-complete domain split, new
generators are in place in case of further power outages in NY,
per-user backups have dedicated servers and have operated since
February [and will continue in this way]), and the problem with
referral payments for users that later cancel was resolved some time
ago.

HTH,
Jeremy

Possibly. Newer versions of Eudora do contain a lot of fixes for various
things from older versions. There are also some improvements in what
Eudora can do with IMAP. IMAP is not Eudora's strong point though.

I was hearing good things about Mulberry as an IMAP client for a while,
but haven't really heard it mentioned much lately.
