update mailbox size

Post by calma » Wed, 15 Mar 2006 04:40:46

Hi all,

could standard mutt update the mailboxes periodically, so that I can
stay there and see when a new mail arrived at any mailbox.

A similar thing would be, when I enter a mailbox, delete all mails there
(or just read them, so it gets moved), and exit, the mailbox size is not
updated as well (not 0 as it should).

thanks a lot for any hints,

calmar

Check the manual for the 'mailboxes' keyword.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here. Do you mean the mails don't
actually get deleted from the mailbox?

Hi Paul,

I checked the manual again, without success unfortunately.

Yeah, no precise description, sorry, I try again:

on this view:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/

I want to stay and when a new mail arrives into on of those boxes, I
want that mutt updates the size of the folder there, so I see: 'oh, new
mail arrived'.

It would also be great when mutt scans the boxes automatically
periodically in this 'view'.

Then I can enter the box do the work and go back into this 'mailbox-view'.

Cheers,
calmar

Check out $timeout, e.g. "set timeout=5"

Hi Andre,

timeout seems to work only 'inside' a mailbox here unfortunately. I
have it already.

thanks a lot anyway!
calmar

PS: maybe I have to get a patch for mutt, folderview or so. there it
might work (really not what I wanted so)

Oh, I see what you mean. mutt cannot update anything in "your" view,
to my best knowledge.

Check out the sidebar-patch; included in mutt-ng

Ah. Sorry, I misunderstood. The folder-view is static once it's created, I
think; you might find a patch somewhere. If you're inside a mailbox, then
mutt will tell you if you have new mail and where, though, so it's not much
of a limitation... ;-)

Hi all,

yeah I see, the status line mentiones new mails in other boxes, and
there is also the pop-up quick status message (or however this is
called).

Thanks a lot all,
calmar
