Does Mutt support recalling/cancelling sent e-mails?

Post by ANTan » Sat, 15 Jul 2006 05:14:16

Hello!

In Outlook 2003, I can recall/cancel my sent e-mails. Can I do the same with Mutt
e-mail client? I don't know what my administrator is using for e-mail service.

Thank you in advance. :)

Does Mutt support recalling/cancelling sent e-mails?

Good afternoon

If you're using Mutt, you're (almost) inevitably using SMTP instead of
whatever bastarding thing Outlook uses to communicate between servers,
and reading mail off of POP or IMAP servers that probably don't care
about whatever Outlook is going to say to try to convince them to delete
your mail before you read it.

Short answer is "No, and it wouldn't work outside of your local server
anyway."

You're welcome.

No. That's NOT an email feature, but an exchange one. Mutt is an email
client it sends and reads mail. Exchange is NOT an email system but a
groupware.

Outlook is an exchange cleint. Your outlook can ask the local exchange
server to cancel sent exchange messages, not emails. If you send a
message outside your exchange domain it is an email and once exchange
send it you cannot cancel.

For what it's worth, that's one Outlook feature that barely seems to work
anyway. You're better off without it.

The effect it usually has is "hmm, wonder what's in that email they want to
recall", because even with Outlook you can set it up to ignore those
requests...

It is not an oulook feature, but a exchange one. The confusion comes
that Outlook is not a mail user agent but a exchange client with some
extra mail possibilities. The cancelling of mail is an exchange
feature, but has no meaning in real email, one cannot control the
servers of the adressee.

Note that it leads to problems when a outlook+exchange user finds that
even its outlook cannot cancel a mail sent outside the exchange
domain...
