PC Mysterious Sound Problem

Can some reader help me? I have what seems to be a mysterious
problem on my 4-year-old PC. It runs under W98/s.e. & has a Crystal
Fusion Sound Card, but I'm pretty sure it's a software problem.

I can successfully "play" any kind of music except MIDIs, & with MIDIs,
I achieve a tiny bit of output, but it's extremely muted--i.e., the volume
is so much turned down that I can barely hear it, but with great
difficulty.

With "wav" suffix files & "mp3" suffix files & even with "playing" CDs,
I have no problem at all & everything seems normal--the volume control
even works normally.

With MIDIs, I have equally bad luck playing MIDI files whether they
are 2-channel, 3-channel, or 6-channel. In any of those 3 cases, I
can just barely hear the MIDI "play."

Any suggestions? Reply to " XXXX@XXXXX.COM ".

Have you checked the MIDI volume control in the Mixer? If so, then the
fact that you hear anything at all says it's hardware.

To get to the mixer, double-click the speaker icon in the lower-right
corner. You may have to fund a menu to select which volume sliders you see.
