Maximum cable lengths for 50 pin shugart drive cables

Is there a maximum length on 50 pin flat cable used to connect shugart type
drives? The drives are double density dual side which may or mat not matter.
What is the practical length people have gotten away with. Thanks

If properly terminated, they should be able to be fairly long.

The termination is about 130 ohms, if you allow 0.1V out of
about 3V, then maybe 4 ohms of wire. That should be pretty long.

The signals are slow enough that length (delay) shouldn't be a problem.

I seem to recall 3m as the specified limit.
Back in the 70's, we certainly ran those lines between two boxes, about
1.5m.

The cable to the external drives on the TRS-80 Model II/16/6000 were at
least three or four feet long. The computer itself was so big, the drives
would have to sit under or beside the desk. The CPU and screen were in one
box, so it couldn't be under a desk.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

I forgot if those were single or double density 8" drives.
Double density means higher frequency, but still under 1 MHz
so I think we all agree 2-3 meters is reasonable.
