Debian GNU/Linux "em8300" package maintainer has been fixing Alpha
architecture incompatibilities on DXR3 (MPEG-2 decoder hardware)
driver <URL: http://www.yqcomputer.com/
Testing on my AlphaStation 200 4/100 with MPlayer-20031205 shows that
it is probably too slow for this. It now works quite well (without
audio as that does take more CPU time and bus bandwidth) for decoding
small MPEG-2 clips (low-bitrate DVB content) but larger MPEG-2 files
(high-bitrate DVD content) cause problems.
My slightly faster Alpha is acting as server, so I would rather not
test on it. If someone has got Alpha with PCI bus and DXR3 card, it
would be nice to hear if the driver works completely when there is
enough resources for proper operation.
