How to setup SNMP feature in OS9 Target machine?

Post by santhos » Sat, 10 Apr 2004 18:28:40

Hi,

I would like to establish a data acquisition system in a os9 based VME
bus Industrial conrollers. The protocol i'm planning to use is SNMP.
But i don't know how to setup SNMP in my Acquisition program and
communicate with a
host machine. The host machine is a Windows machine. Can anyone help
me to setup such an arrangement.

I have some 100 Thermocouples in the site and its data is available in
an os9 data module. My acquisition program should sent these data to
the windows server application.

Moreover i read that i need to setup MIB database. what it is and how
to do it in OS9?

Expecting the valuable help/comments.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Santhosh

Setting up SNMP involves getting SNMP for OS9. There is a very old
CMU SNMP V1 on the os9archive. That package is the version before it
become the package now known as Net-SNMP that is GPL. Radisys sells SNMP
for OS9 from Emanate. You could also purchase or port one of the many
SNMP packages available. Once you have a package, your biggest effort
will be developing the agent to handle the request and return or set
values.

Minor correction: The SNMP package that RadiSys sells for OS-9 is a
port of SNMP Research's Emanate product.
