HP LaserJet IIID print quality problem

HP LaserJet IIID print quality problem

Post by Phrederic » Thu, 11 Dec 2003 05:56:33

My HP Laserjet IIID is having some output quality issues...

In almost the center of the page there is a 1" wide strip that seems to
smudge and shadow the output on the paper...

I've put a scan (~750 kbytes) online at:

http://www.yqcomputer.com/

...the problem is most noticable towards the bottom next to the pie graph.

- Darkness is at 9 (lightest setting)
- Paper is a heavier bond (24lb?)
- I've tried wiping the corona wire

...any suggestions as to why this is happening? I'd hate to have to scrap
the printer as it does a good job of double sided printing. I imagine parts
are expensive.

Run the test page again, and while the paper is completely gone from the
paper tray, pop open the top of the printer. You should hopefully find, if
you time it right, the paper will have passed under the toner cartridge, and
before it has passed into the fuser. If you have the smudge, it's the toner
cart. If it looks good, it could be the fuser smearing it. From the looks
of it, it looks like the wiper blade in the toner cartridge isn't doing it's
job anymore.

It's happening before the fuser. I assume that the wiper blade is supposed
to ensure that the drum is clean before the laser puts the image on it.

I don't suppose that this is something I can fix, is it? I don't use the
printer often, but it's handy when I need a big printout.

Thanks for the help!

Hi
Does look like it could be the fuser.

You would get a better response if you posted this in the
comp.sys.hp.hardware newsgroup.
