Is the Adpatec aha-2490 scsi card suitable for a coolscan ls-1000?

Hi

I've bought a used ls-1000 at ebay and now i'm in the search of a pci
scsi card. I've found at ebay this model (Adaptec aha-2490):

http://www.yqcomputer.com/ +US&cat=%2FProduct%2FAHA-2940UW&prodkey=AHA-2940UW

It also includes a 68 cable and a 68-to-50 pin adaptor and apparently
has drivers for windows xp.

The issue is that i know virtually nothing about the scsi interface.
Can anyone help telling me
if this scsi card gets on well with nikon scanners?

thanks.

Adaptec 2940 (and W, UW, etc.) is de-facto standard for SCSI interface.
I'm using it with Canon FS4000 scanner, and works flawlessly. You
should not have any problems.

Hi

The issue is that the ls-1000 has a 50 pin connector, while the
external plug of the card is 68-pin.

My question is: the 68-pin cable + the 68-to-50 adaptor is enough to
plug the scanner to the card?

Hi,

I used a AHA2940 for some years with my ACER SCSI scanner (300S??) after I
moved to a non ISA motherboard and couldn't use its original SCSI card. The
ACER scanner had two 25pin DB25 connectors, and I used a 68pin to 50 pin
adapter (no idea where I got it from) on the aha2940 and a 50pin to DB25
cable to the scanner (ex MacIntosh). And I never bothered with any
terminators. It all worked fine.

so, if understand what you say, this layout is possible:

68pin SCSI card----->68pin cable------>68-to-50 adapter--->50pin
scanner

Am i right?

Yes, it looks ok to me. A "proper" SCSI setup though would have a
terminator at the scanner end if the scanner doesn't provide it.
68pin SCSI card----->68pin cable------>68-to-50 adapter--->50pin
Scanner----->scsi terminator
I didn't need one in my case, so I didn't bother.

Drivers are available only for windows 98 and older at the nikon
support site. I was never able to get my ls1000 to work and would be
interested in hearing if you get yours to work.
