In article <c8nfrj$2o91$ XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

If it's the last nameserver, it will only be used when all the other
nameservers are down.

BIND-9.2.4rc4 + MySQL(mysql-bind) : BIND does not resolve my hosts :(

Post by ZMan Z » Mon, 24 May 2004 01:55:03

Hello,
I hope for some help with my fresh BIND-9.2.4rc4+MySQL(mysql-bind
< http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ;) setup on my Sorcerer/GNU Linux
< http://www.yqcomputer.com/ ; (kernel 2.6.6) box...

the setup is well configured, but maybe the "zones" themselves (as
below) are mis-configured..., as BIND does not resolve my *.zaltsman
hosts... although i've added it to the /etc/resolv.conf - of my system
(as the last nameserver).

please your help :(

[named.conf]

zone "zaltsman"
{
type master;
notify no;
database "mysqldb bind myzones 10.0.0.1 bind mypasswd";
//database "mysqldb dbname tablename hostname user password";
allow-update { none; };
};

[/named.conf]

[MySQL :: bind -> myzones]

name ttl rdtype rdata
zaltsman 259200 SOA zaltsman. www.zaltsman. 200405211 28800 7200
86400 28800
zaltsman 259200 NS ns0.zaltsman.
zaltsman 259200 NS ns1.zaltsman.
zaltsman 259200 MX 10 mail.zaltsman.
w0.zaltsman 259200 A 10.0.0.1

ns1.zaltsman 259200 Cname w1.zaltsman.

NS records cannot point to in-zone CNAMES. Think about it: when you tell
clients to ask ns0.zaltsman. for zaltsman., but ns0 is a cname for w0,
how is the client to get the address of w0? by asking... ns0?
