Really strange problem with XP-Home & SAMBA (Problem solved!!!)

Answering myself. It was an "random" hardawe problem BOTH on the
network card and switch (I changed one and kept the other in my first
tests, that's what I didn't notice it).
For anyone interested, by lowering the MTU from 1500 to an small 512
value, samba connection could "hardly" work with the broken hardware.
This could be a quick test to check for random network hardware
failures.

2. Strange problem that I REALLY need to solve!!!

I have two laptops one a Dell Inspiron 8500 the other my office laptop is a
Toshiba Satellite. The problem is with a remote control that I use for Power
point. It works beautifully on the Dell but only works intermittently on the
Toshiba. I tried a different model of remote control and the same problem.
These remotes work by RF and have a USB dongle. I am desparate to get this
to work since I use it for teaching and I need it to work consistantly. Does
anybody have any suggestions. I have tried everything and so far no luck.
Nobody seems to have encountered this particular problem before. Please
help. Thanks. Tom
