FW: NTPd code modification.

FW: NTPd code modification.

Post by suhas » Sun, 25 Jun 2006 17:22:56

Hi All,

I would like to introduce myself as Suhas.P.B , a Software Engineer from
Bangalore, India.

I have a special requirement that , ntp daemon should not modify the time
automatically
, instead it should inform a application ( some critical application ) that
is running, the
application should take care of modifying the time .

The requirement is because my application runs timers, if the time is
modified without notice
to the application, the timers get expired and lead to a chaos.

So , my initial doubts are ,

Can i do this , by modifying the NTPd source code, if so any material i can
liik into .
Which part of the NTP code sets the system time .

Another small requirement is that , Can i restrict the NTP to adjust the
time, iff and only if
the time difference crosses some limit with respect to the server

Awaiting for your responses ,

Thanks in advance,
Suhas.P.B

1. Fw: Fw: [RFC] Strange code in cpu_idle()

2. which ntpd ? OpenBSD openntpd, BSD ntpd, other ?

Hello,
I'm a bit lose to get a good system for setting computer's clock.
After asking about clockspeed vs ntpd, I choose ntpd.

But it seems to exists several ntpd implementation.
for example the Debian packages contains openntpd (OpenBSD NTP daemon)
which has not many configuration options, like no drift file ...
I've found ntpd in the BSD System Manager's Manual, which has a full
set of options.

Please, is there one reference for NTPD daemon which I can install on
my Linux box ?

My need are simple :
- getting only one computer which ask time to stratum 2 servers and
then serves the time to my others computers.
- not asking to much to stratum 2 servers by computing the time drift
of the server's clock.

Thanks for help.
